On Thursdays, the middle school students participate in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) program. Graduate students from the nearby USC Health Sciences Campus come to Legacy LA to lecture to our youth and help them perform scientific experiments. Every week they learn about a new topic in the fields of biology and chemistry. This is a very engaging activity because not only do they perform experiments, but they are also asked questions pertaining to the lesson throughout the lecturing segment. The students are always excited to try something new and they are truly happy when they see their experiment was a success. STEM education is beneficial to our students because it helps them become more literate in the fields of science and technology. Additionally, their critical thinking skills are improved and they will be able to develop a new way of thinking in a world that is currently immersed in the STEM foundation.
